We stumbled upon something new that we thought we would try out. The concept is simple enough - frozen celery with peanut butter and we thought it might be the perfect long-lasting enrichment treat for your pup.
Cost
This was so easy and simple, added celery and peanut butter to our grocery list and voila that was it. Remember to check the ingredients of your peanut butter - Xylitol which is found in many peanut butters is toxic to your dog.
We bought organic celery and CB's organic peanut butter which cost us less than $10.
Preparation
We simply washed the celery, spread the peanut butter and popped it in the freezer for about 2 hours. Actual preparation time was less than 2 minutes.
How Long Our Dog Was Occupied
We cut our celery sticks into 6 inch stalks. Skip was so excited to eat this (as he loves peanut butter).
We tested two rounds. The first round, Skip wasn't quite sure what to do with it and made several attempts to lick the peanut butter off the celery as it skid across our wood floors. After about a minute, he finally lifted the celery into his mouth and began chewing it. The second round he was much quicker. For two stalks of 6 inch celery, it took him just under 3 minutes to consume.
Final Verdict
Its a fun treat for dogs but didn't preoccupy and keep Skip busy as much as we'd like. We always try to recommend games, treats or enrichment that will keep your dog busy for at least 10 minutes.
We will definitely be doing it again for a fun and nice summer treat.
Other Notes:
Celery should be given to your dog in moderation. If you don't buy it organic, then make sure to wash the celery as best as possible to clear any of the pesticides on it.
Hope you've enjoyed our review and try it out yourself sometime soon!
